Who says sound healing is just for adults?
With many parents turning to the alternative therapy route to help their children with various concerns such as sleep issues, anxiety, low immune system and diet, it’s no surprise sound healing is becoming a popular choice amongst many parents.
Having already experienced the sensations and wonders of sound healing for ourselves, we wanted to delve deeper into how it works and how it can benefit children. We know how white noise can work, along with whale music and Mozart, however this takes things to a whole new level!
So we caught up with Kundalini Yoga Teacher & Sound Healing Guru Jane, to get her side of the story on this wonderful holistic alternative to help improve areas of your children’s (and your!) lives.
//Please introduce yourself and when your interest for sound healing started?//
Hello, I am Jane Blackburn and you could call me a lifelong seeker, instinctively knowing there is a huge spiritual reason to the existence of life. I have an innate passion to make things better or easier for my fellow travellers along this pathway of life.
By sharing some of the tools I have picked up along my journey I have the privilege to assist people or act as a sign post! Through Kundalini Yoga I was introduced to the sounds of the gongs and from the moment the first sounds reached me I knew something in my soul had connected / reconnected with sound therapy. I am not musical in any way but I have always sensed vibrations.
I instantly became aware that we store our trauma, stories and stress in our body and that it interferes with the free flowing energy vibration that we have. From the first practice sessions on friends I saw people being transformed leaving stress behind getting their best night’s sleep for years! I was hooked on the simple way I could help people feel better!
Science is beginning to prove how sounds affect the human body and I don’t need to understand how it works I have seen it and I trust it works.
//What is sound healing and how does it work? //
Everything you see around you is vibrating at a frequency; We are constantly being vibrated on a cellular level, by heard and unheard sound frequencies. Sound has a tremendous influence over human functionality affecting us on a cellular level, influencing how we feel and function. Sound healing practices like a Gong Bath and Crystal bowls uses vibrational sound and frequency to help reduce stress, alter consciousness and create a deep sense of peace and wellbeing for better health and by allowing the body’s natural energy to be restored to its original stress free condition.
//What age range do you feel sound healing appeals to?//
Each session attracts a wide range of ages from stressed pre exam teenagers to senior people who have trouble relaxing, it a unique experience for each person.
//With regards to babies & children, what would you say are the top 3 benefits of a sound healing session and why would you encourage parents to look into this as an option?//
My experience so far has shown that babies and children have become so much calmer, fall into a regular sleeping pattern and experience relief from there very stimulating world.
//What other alternative therapies would you recommend introducing to children from an early age?//
Without a doubt Indian head massage.
It’s something that’s been practised daily in Indian culture for thousands of years to reduce stress and tension, aid relaxation, restore balance to the body’s natural systems, detoxify and provide relief from a wide range of common complaints, not to mention the wonderful power of touch!
