Happy New Year, everyone!

2016 has been a very eventful year, with a lot of changes all over the world. Some of these changes may not have been the best and you may have found yourself feeling a little bit on the down side. The good news is that a New Year can actually mean a New You! If you want things to change around you, YOU are the best place to start.

  • Slow Down

Our name says it all – we are human beings. We’re not just humans, we don’t just exist. We live each day as it comes and we learn with our wins and mistakes. However, living can become quite hectic and you may find yourself stressed without knowing where to start on your massive to-do list. Take a minute to yourself, breathe in and out and re-focus. Sometimes, taking a step back can help you take two steps forward.

  • Embrace your body

Your body is your motor and if you’re not in sync with it, you can’t perform to the best of your abilities. If you learn how to love your body, your confidence will grow and others will notice it. We all come in different shapes and sizes and if we were all the same, how boring would that be?

  • Try a new hobby

Hobbies are great way to unwind after a busy day at work and to get stuck in in something that makes you feel happy and content! If you don’t have a hobby or are getting tired of your current ones, try a new activity! If you’re into sports, why not try new classes at the gym or climbing? If you’re into more relaxed activities, yoga, pilates or even walking can do you the world of good!

  • Meditate

Meditation can be a big word if you don’t know exactly what it means. We’re not talking about going away for 2 months and be in silence in the middle of a mountain. Meditation can be done in your home, in your own time. Take 10 minutes every day, either before you go to work or when you get home. Light some candles around you, sit down comfortably and close your eyes. During these 10 minutes reflect on your past actions and focus on what you can do differently or what goals you want to achieve in the near future. This is your time and your time only!

  • Drink more water

Water is essential for our survival and it’s really good for our health! Water not only helps you with skin conditions (great to keep those spots away!) but it also aids with weight loss. If you’re not used to drinking water, start by setting yourself small goals. First, buy a BPA free water bottle – normally they’ll hold around 500ml of water. Then, aim to drink one water bottle in the morning and another one in the afternoon. At the end of the day, you would have drank 1 litre of water! After a week or so, your body will get used to it and then you can start increasing your water intake!

  • It’s ok to say NO

Life is all about making choices that contribute to your happiness and sometimes you just have to say no. Nowadays people are scared of saying no due to judging eyes of colleagues and friends but at the end of the day, you have the choice of saying yes or no and both choices are legitimate. The main thing is to decide according to your own will and happiness.

  • Be positive

Positivity attracts positivity and that’s a fact! Sometimes it’s hard to keep positive, we know that, but the key is that you train your brain little by little. If a bad situation happens, allow yourself a set amount of time to be angry or sad – these are emotions as well and we can’t just ignore them. However, after that set amount of time, start thinking about why that situation happened and most importantly what you can do to turn that around or overcome it. Is the glass half empty or half full? Send your positive thoughts to the universe and let the Universe reward you for that!

  • Attitude is gratitude

Was 2016 a great year for you? Who do you have to thank for that? Think about the people that have helped you and went out of their way for you in the past year and send them a little something. Being grateful is one of the best feelings in the world, but showing it is even better! Being grateful should be a mindset so that you live your life appreciating the people you encounter and making them feel special.
