Fantastic opportunity for an experienced Stable Manager/ Riding Instructor to join a family at their new estate near Andover, Hampshire from the end of April 2018.
Someone that is able to have an input in the start up of this exciting project and see it through from start to finish is key as the family are looking for someone that has extensive experience in this area and has a genuine love and passion for working with horses.
Alongside this, the candidate must love working with children as the family have 3 girls so previous experience with children in a similar environment is a bonus.
The family are having a new stable block built on the grounds and this will consist of up to 5 loose boxes, a tack room and storage area for fodder and bedding.
Each box will have a rubber base and running water plus there will be plenty of outside space for al fresco grooming, the farrier and a ménage for schooling children and giving riding lessons.
Two of the family’s own horses will occupy stables, leaving two spare as a possible livery provision.
There are plans to operate the stables as a commercial operation in the not so distant future where lessons to the general public will be offered.
It is required that the Stable Manager be hands on with the liveries and will also be happy to provide riding lessons and instruction to the family’s daughters, the owners of the livery horses and to any external pupils that may wish to bring their ponies to the stables for extra curricula lessons. Please note, a formal qualification to teach lessons is essential and prior experience is also required.
Duties to include:
• Stables: Mucking out, feeding, shoeing, cleaning tack
• Riding Tuition: to the family and on a commercial basis
• Purchasing: sourcing feed, bedding, working to a given budget
• Marketing: promotion of the riding facilities as required
• Accounts: Basic knowledge of accounts would be an advantage
• Driving: driving a horsebox/trailer, taking children to Pony Club events,
• HSE: Compliance with standards and procedures essential
• Generally keeping the stables, tidy, safe and organised
Hours of work:
Hours will mainly be Monday to Friday with up to two weekends per month when two days will be given in lieu taken of during the week. Flexibility for some Saturday mornings, again with time off in lieu.
Live-in Accommodation: There will be a one bedroom flat above the stable with a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, sitting room, kitchen with dining and utility area and a study/second bedroom. All bills included.
Salary: TBC according to experience, pension and 25 days holiday, including Bank Holidays
There will also be an opportunity for the successful candidate to use the swimming pool and tennis court in accordance with the family’s agreement and make use of the beautiful countryside surrounding the estate.
